Acupressure / Acupuncture

Introduction: Acu points, or acupressure points, that lie along meridians, or channels, in your body. These are the same energy meridians and acu points as those targeted with acupuncture. It is believed that through these invisible channels flows vital energy -- or a life force called qi (ch'i). It is also believed that these 12 major meridians connect specific organs or networks of organs, organizing a system of communication throughout your body.

How does it Work?
The meridians begin at your fingertips, connect to your brain, and then connect to an organ associated with a certain meridian. According to this theory, when one of these meridians is blocked or out of balance, illness can occur. Acupressure and acupuncture are thought to help restore balance. On the other hand acupressure reduces muscle tension, improves circulation, or stimulates of endorphins, which are natural pain relievers.

Treatment Method
For Acupuncture sujok needles are used globally. But, in our clinic we believe that acupressure itself can give best results and hence we don’t use needles to make your treatment a painless one. For Acupressure we use fingers or special devices to apply pressure to acu points on the body's meridians.

Treatment results
The goal of acupressure is to restore health and balance to the body's channels of energy and to regulate opposing forces of yin (negative energy) and yang (positive energy). Acupressure not only treats the energy fields and body but also the mind, emotions, and spirit. Therapist can transmit the vital energy (external qi) to another person.

Auriculotherapy

Introduction
Auriculotherapy is the stimulation of acupuncture points on the external ear surface for the diagnosis and treatment of health conditions in other areas of the body. The ear holds a microsystem of the body, consistent with the brain map discoveries of Canadian neuroscientist Wilder Penfield. Dr. Penfield found that maps of the body exist on the surface, or sensory cortex, of the brain. This same brain map is also projected onto different areas of the body, “microsystems”, and in particular precision, onto the ear. Ear acupuncture has proven to be an efficient method of treating a wide variety of conditions, from headaches and allergies to addictions and pain disorders.

How does it Work?
When an auricular acupuncture point on the ear is “active” it expresses as increased tenderness on stimulation and a higher electrical conductivity. This indicates pathology in the corresponding body tissue or function and makes auricular acupuncture a useful form of assessment of ailments. The texture, colour, skin changes, veins, etc., in different areas of the ear can be indicators of the state of health.

All signals induced by ear acupuncture travel through a specific part of the brain, the diencephalon, to the corresponding body parts. The body strictly obeys these commands because they come straight from the brain. Thus ear acupuncture takes advantage of the body’s own control center, the brain.

Treatment Method
Basically Treatment is performed by needling the respective points on the ear, Since we avoid using needles in our clinic we use Small ‘beads’ – metal plated, magnetic are often placed with adhesive plaster for longer lasting stimulation.

Treatment results
Some patients feel immediately relieved, others need several days before they notice an improvement. Some people feel as if they were walking on air after treatment, and almost all feel very relaxed.

Reflexology

Introduction
Reflexology is an applied pressure therapy. This holistic healing therapy works on the principle, that each body part is represented on the feet and hands of an individual. The foot acts as a map of the entire body by pressing specific areas called reflexes on the feet and hands; one can produce therapeutic effects in other parts of the body. When these areas are pressed they stimulate the flow of energy and release blockages."Vital energy" or "life force", flows and permeates the entire organs of the body, including every living cell and tissue. Subsequently, if this flow becomes impeded in the human body it is reflected on the hands and feet of the individual. Through the correct application of pressure the stagnated energy or "Chi" gets unblocked. It is believed that without the proper flow of energy, the body slowly starts to manifest disease.

How does it Work?
The way that reflexology works is quite amazing as it seems to have its effect on all aspects of the person. The physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual self are all affected as is the body's energy system, all of which are fundamental in terms of holistic health and its principles. The body is a complex mechanism with many parts working together for the benefit of the whole being. When things are out of balance the body systems need to be encouraged to return to a harmonious state. Reflexology, as a treatment, encourages the body to return to its homeostasis, its natural state of balance. In terms of the physical aspect of the person, this therapy affects the body in a number of ways.

Treatment Method
We diagnose illness by feeling the feet or the hands. By stimulating the Reflex Areas and Reflex Zones (nerve endings) of the feet, the blockages are detected through the experience of pain or presence of crystal deposits. This is found to occur in parts of the foot and hands that relates to the corresponding body part that is imbalanced.

Treatment results
Firstly, there are thousands of nerve endings in the feet, which travel the length and breadth of the body. These are stimulated by the massage of the reflex areas in the feet, positively affecting the nerve function and communication in the body.

Secondly, the massage has another stimulating effect, this time concentrating on the circulatory system, improving the function of the blood and lymphatic movement. The blood and lymphatic systems have an important role in keeping the body free and clear of waste products as well as transporting nutrients around the body; thus treatment stimulates this function, maintaining and increasing the efficacy of the circulatory system.

Thirdly, the stimulation of the reflex areas attributed to the glands and organs, in combination with the arousal of the blood, nerve and circulatory systems, has a positive effect on the body's immune system, enhancing the innate defence mechanism's strength and responsiveness.

Moxibustion

Introduction
Moxibustion means to stimulate acupuncture points by heat. The heat is created by burning of herbs. The herbs may or may not directly contact the skin. If the burning herbs do not touch the skin, it is called indirect moxibustion. If it touches the skin or touch the skin through a piece of something, such as ginger or garlic, or salt powder or something else, which is located between the herbs and the skin it is called indirect moxibustion.

How does it Work?
The function of moxibustion is still, as for the mechanism of acupuncture, unknown. It seems that the heat is not the only explanation of the moxibustion in the healing, since what we know is that the healing effect would be replaced by burning of a cigarette. Also, the healing effects of a moxibustion are largely affected by the quality of the herb (its brands and the geographic area of growth).

Treatment Method
Moxibustion needs only several minutes to several ten minutes each time but needs to be repeated tens of times usually. Moxa is used both directly and indirectly, depending upon the intended effects. It is used to great effect in tandem with acupuncture points, enhancing and maximizing the effects of the acupuncture needles. In this case a small ball is rolled and placed on the head an acupuncture needle and ignited. It burns for about 20-30 seconds until it extinguishes. This is repeated for a prescribed number of times. But we don’t use indirect method, since we avoid usage of needles. We do only Direct application. In case of request we do indirect method.

Treatment results
Moxa is used to strengthen the immune system, to warm the body and to bring more qi and blood flow to an area. Moxa is especially useful for the treatment of pain.

Aromatherapy

Introduction
Aromatherapy is the practice of using the natural oils extracted from flowers, bark, stems, leaves, roots or other parts of a plant to enhance psychological and physical well-being. The inhaled aroma from these "essential" oils is widely believed to stimulate brain function. Essential oils can also be absorbed through the skin, where they travel through the bloodstream and can promote whole-body healing.

How does it Work?
Essential oils that are inhaled into the lungs offer both psychological and physical benefits. Not only does the aroma of the natural essential oil stimulate the brain to trigger a reaction, but when inhaled into the lungs, the natural constituents (naturally occurring chemicals) can supply therapeutic benefit. Eg: Diffusing eucalyptus essential oil to help ease congestion is a prominent example.

Essential oils that are applied to the skin can be absorbed into the bloodstream. The constituents of essential oils can aid in health, beauty and hygiene conditions. To apply essential oils to the skin, essential oils are typically diluted into a carrier such as a cold pressed vegetable oil, also known as carrier oil. Common carrier oils include sweet almond oil, apricot kernel oil and grape seed oil.

Essential oils can be blended together to create appealing and complex aromas. Essential oils can also be blended for a specific therapeutic application. Essential oils that are carefully blended with a specific therapeutic purpose in mind may be referred to as an essential oil synergy. A synergistic essential oil blend is considered to be greater in total action than, each oil working independently.

Treatment Method
Introducing essential oils into your lifestyle can be quite easy, fun, and therapeutically beneficial. Below are a few ways in which you can get started. These methods are intended as guidelines only, and you do need to pay special attention to all safety precautions applicable for each essential oil that you choose. It is also important to remember that essential oils are flammable.

Easy Inhalation :

Place 3-4 drops of essential oil on a tissue. Place the tissue near your nose and inhale. When trying an oil for the first time, use only one drop to ensure that you do not have a sensitivity or reaction to the oil.

Steam Inhalation :

Boil 2 cups of water. Pour the water into a bowl and add 3-7 drops of oil to the water. Use fewer drops if you are using an oil that may cause irritation to your mucous membranes (i.e. cinnamon, eucalyptus, rosemary, pine, thyme, cajuput, etc.). Place your nose about 12" away from the bowl and inhale. Don't inhale the steam constantly and if you notice any irritation or discomfort, stop immediately. Steam inhalation can help with colds and influenza. Use of energizing or relaxing oils can also make this method useful any time of day or night.

Aromatherapy Massage :

Add up to 20 drops of essential oil to 1 ounce carrier oil such as sweet almond oil and massage onto yourself or partner. Keep away from eyes and genital areas. Do not apply essential oils to the skin without first diluting them. Be sure to also read the safety data for the essential oils you choose to use.

Bath :

Add 5-7 drops essential oil to 1 ounce carrier oil. Add this blend to your running bath water and mix well before getting into the tub. Be sure to read the safety data for the essential oils you choose to use.

Room Humidifier

Use the steam inhalation method noted above but don't directly inhale into the bowl. Use up to 10 drops of oil. Use fewer drops if you are using an oil that may cause sensitization. Other methods including use of an aromatherapy diffuser or lamp scent ring available through many aromatherapy companies.

Insect Repellent :

Many essential oils including citronella, lavender, and peppermint act as a natural repellent against insects. Sprinkle a few drops of essential oil onto tissues or cotton balls and place near your doorways and windows to help repel insects. Be sure to read all safety data on the oils you use as some oils may not be suitable for use around pets. Be careful not to apply the essential oil directly onto fragile surfaces.

Treatment results
A form of alternative medicine, aromatherapy is gaining momentum. It is used for a variety of applications, including pain relief, mood enhancement and increased cognitive function. There are a wide number of essential oils available, each with its own healing properties.

Cupping Therapy

Introduction
Hydrotherapy is the use of water to treat a disease or to maintain health. The theory behind it is that water has many properties that give it the ability to heal:

How does it Work?
Water can store and carry heat and energy. Water can dissolve other substances, such as minerals and salts. Water cannot hurt you, even if you are sensitive to your surroundings.

Treatment Method
Water is found in different forms, such as ice, liquid, or steam. Ice may be used to cool, liquid is used in baths and compresses at varying pressures or temperatures, and steam is used in steam baths or when breathing in. Water can help blood flow. Water has a soothing, calming, and relaxing effect on people, whether in a bath, shower, spray, or compress.Exercise in water takes the weight off a painful joint while also providing resistance.

Treatment results
People use hydrotherapy to treat many illnesses and conditions, including acne; arthritis; colds; depression; headaches; stomach problems; joint, muscle, and nerve problems; sleep disorders; and stress. People also use it for relaxation and to maintain health. You can also use hydrotherapy to reduce or relieve sudden or long-lasting pain.

Magnet Therapy

Introduction
Magnetic therapy is ideal for pain relief, used around the world for centuries Whether you suffer from back pain, knee pain, arthritis, tendonitis, or even migraines, magnets are a safe, easy and effective method for achieving pain relief naturally.

How does it Work?
In most cases, magnets are placed directly over the area where you’re experiencing pain. Magnets can also be used on acupuncture points in different areas of the body.Current research suggests that magnets affect ion channels which can reduce and/or block nerve pain signals. Ions are electro-chemicals that have either a positive or negative charge. Their movement through cellular gateways, called 'ion channels', controls pain signals, muscle contraction, and nearly all other biological processes. Ion channels can be affected chemically with drugs, manually with electrical stimulation, and naturally with magnets.

Treatment Method
Small magnets of different shape are placed in the acupressure points using a meditape.

Treatment results
Using magnets for pain relief offers a huge advantage, because they’re safe, non-invasive, they last for a lifetime, and have no side effects. Research studies and doctors agree that you can use magnetic therapy as often as you need to. When high quality magnets are properly applied, they are effective up to 90% of the time.

Healing after Injury or Surgery: Traditionally, ice and heat are used to affect blood flow, providing relief to an injured area. However, ice and heat both take time to radiate through muscle tissue and begin working. They also require pauses in treatment that can allow swelling to return.

Magnet therapy is able to provide the same benefits of ice and heat, but works much faster. Studies and clinical trials (on humans and animals), have shown that strong magnets can quickly reduce swelling, bruising and pain, and can significantly speed up healing from bone fractures and surgical wounds.

Strong magnetic fields work fast because they're able to reach deep muscle tissue immediately. This means they can affect more blood flow in less time, leading to faster relief. Magnets can also be used for as long as necessary, without any pause in treatment to slow down recovery.

Better Sleep: Magnetic mattress pads soothe aches and pains throughout your entire body as you lay down each night. Several 6-12 month clinical trials have found that sleeping on a magnetic mattress pad or pillow can greatly improve quality of sleep. Research suggests that applying therapeutic magnetic fields near the head may naturally stimulate the pineal gland to improve melatonin levels, promoting a deeper, more restful sleep.

Warning
Do not use magnets if any of the following conditions apply to you:If you have a pacemaker, defibrillator, insulin pump, or any other electrical device. This does not apply to surgically implanted pins, rods or screws. If you are pregnant. On open or bleeding wounds.

Mudra Therapy

Introduction
Believe it or not – Your health is in your hands! Our hands are particularly blessed with virtues of wellness. The four fingers and the thumb represent the five major building blocks or the ‘Panchamahabhootas’ of which the entire universe is made viz. Sky (Ether), Air, Fire, Water and Earth. According to natural sciences, disease is nothing but a limitation that emerges in the continuity and balance of these five elements.

How does it Work?
The natural sciences of Mudra therapy believe that the five fingers correspond to the five basic elements viz. Ether, Air, Fire, Water and Earth. • Thumb – The fire (Agni) • Index finger – The air (Vayu) • Middle finger – The ether (Aakasha) • Ring finger – The earth (Prithvi) • Small finger – The water (Jala) So as to bring back the balance in the five elements, there are some specific methods of touching and aligning the fingers with each other. These are referred to as ‘Hast-Mudras’ and this easy and doable therapy may be practiced anytime as an augmented relief from your malady as well as a handy tool for restoring your wellness.

Dietary Supplement

Introduction
Today’s dietary supplements include vitamins, minerals, herbals and botanicals, amino acids, enzymes, and many other products. Dietary supplements come in a variety of forms: traditional tablets, capsules, and powders, as well as drinks and energy bars. Popular supplements include vitamins D and E; minerals like calcium and iron; herbs such as echinacea and garlic; and specialty products like glucosamine, probiotics, and fish oils. We suggest the best for you, based on your health.

How does it Work?
If you don’t eat a nutritious variety of foods, some supplements might help you get adequate amounts of essential nutrients. However, supplements can’t take the place of the variety of foods that are important to a healthy diet.Scientific evidence shows that some dietary supplements are beneficial for overall health and for managing some health conditions. For example, calcium and vitamin D are important for keeping bones strong and reducing bone loss; folic acid decreases the risk of certain birth defects; and omega-3 fatty acids from fish oils might help some people with heart disease.

Warning
Don’t decide to take dietary supplements to treat a health condition that you have diagnosed yourself, without consulting a health care provider.

Don’t take supplements in place of, or in combination with, prescribed medications without your health care provider’s approval.

Check with your health care provider about the supplements you take if you are scheduled to have any type of surgical procedure.

The term “natural” doesn’t always mean safe. A supplement’s safety depends on many things, such as its chemical makeup, how it works in the body, how it is prepared, and the dose used. Certain herbs (for example, comfrey and kava) can harm the liver.

Before taking a dietary supplement, ask yourself these questions:

  • What are the potential health benefits of this dietary supplement product?
  • What are its potential benefits for me?
  • Does this product have any safety risks?
  • What is the proper dose to take?
  • How, when, and for how long should I take it?

Food and Nutrition

Introduction:
Every day we have to make decisions about what kind of food we want to eat and what kind of nutrition every food product will provide. It’s the nutritional choices that we make every day that will determine how healthy we will be in the long run. Too much food can make us obese, while too little nutrition can lead to malnourishment.

The right foundation to good health is to choose food products that are rich in nutrients and have a balanced amount of nutrients like vitamins, minerals, protein, carbohydrates and a little bit of fat as well. If you choose your foods wisely, you will be able to enjoy the experience of eating, as the right foods will help you remain healthy.

You must choose food products that nourish your body.

How does it Work?
The importance of nutrition can be seen in wound healing as well. If you are healthy, and your immunity is high, your wounds will heal well and you will have speedy recovery from all kinds of disorders. For those who are trying to lose weight, there is a high importance of maintaining a food diary. The food diary can help you keep a track of the foods that you have consumed. This also helps you keep a track of all the calories you have consumed in a day.

Treatment Method
Five element based Food chart is suggested individually based on their symptoms and disorders.
